need to know what jeep is , on the shifter previuos owner removed the decals so i dont know what is what. any suggestions?

Even easier, put it in 4hi and drive in a circle on pavement. If the thing bucks and squeals, it is part time.

He has no shift indicator for the transfer case, and even the NP242 Full-time has a Part-time position so that wouldn't be a sure-fire way to find out.

should be able to just count the shifts, no?

np242 should go 2h, 4hFT, 4hPT,N, 4l... should be able to feel it shift thru each of those positions, a total of 5 possible positions

if you only feel it go 2h, 4h, N, 4L, a total of 4 possible positions, then its a 231
