Default Fuel System Issue

Hi guys/ladies,

New to Jeepin' and this forum; learning a lot from everyone, thx.

I have a 89 KJ Laredo and sometimes when accelerating from a stop the truck will spit and studder also it sometimes take 2 or 3 cranks of the key for it to start. Most times it's flawless and runs great.

I replaced the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator but it still does the same thing. At this point I'm thinking of cutting the head off the snake and just replace the fuel sending module, lines, etc all the way to the injectors to dead this issue but figured I'd ask if anyone has seen this and knows what I can be.

Appreciate the help and info!

Come on!! That's an irresponsible guess.

Fuel pressure can be tested. Rent a tester from the auto parts store.

When is the last time this XJ had new plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

Click on the pink link below in my signature and do Rips 1,3,4, and 5.

well it seems like a fuel pump to me, my girls 98 XJ had most of the same symptoms and it ended up being a fuel pump.

But I agree with the tune up.. My 95 XJ was having lack of power and was not having the power off acceleration, gave it a tune up and it ran 100% better.

Here's the problem with that.

Different causes show the same symptoms.

Let's say you're kind sweaty, nauseated, light headed.

Do you have the flu? Maybe.

A cold? Maybe.

High blood pressure? Maybe.

Having a hear attack? Maybe.

A brain tumor? Maybe.

Would you tell a guy having a heart attack he's only got the flu, and feel comfortable telling him that?

How about telling the guy with the flu he's having a heart attack?

Had a tune up not long ago, plugs, cables, etc. I will try 1,3,4,5 tomorrow and see what I find and report back. Really appreciate the info everyone. Much thanks.

I don't recall if the Renix ('87-90) models have a Coolant Temperature Sensor, but my buddy's '96 had similar symptoms. While it isn't a common failure, the test is free: Unplug it and see if the problem goes away. If it does, replace the sensor. If not, plug it back in and continue troubleshooting.

Cruiser, input?

They do, and it can be tested.

Get the Tips done first as the problems rectified by doing them may well be the cause.
