Longer than usual starting time ? Older Renix era jeeps do take longer to start . As for cold start issue when was last tune up performed ?

The fuel sender and fuel pump share a common ground point behind the trim panel where the spare tire is mounted.

freegdr is absolutely correct regarding the crank times.

What parts did you replace doing the tune-up? What brand spark plugs?

Ever cleaned the throttle body and IAC?

Checked to see if the intake manifold bolts have loosened up?

It would be great if you dedicated about an hour or so to do tips # 1 through 5 in my signature link.

Sounds like you have a grounding problem.. The gas gauge has NOTHING to do with fuel pressure, it a float in the tank attached to a potentiometer. Bad ground would cause the pump to stall and the gauge to quit,

Sorry to hijack a little. Is this same for all Cherokees. I have a 96 I am having what I believe to be fuel pump issues and I just last week added trailer lights and used that same spot to ground the trailer lights as I thought that was just a ground for the lights not other stuff. Could that be causing me issues by adding the extra ground to that same spot.
