Default fuel gauge question

I have a 93 xj, first old car I've had so im not sure if this is common for the year. When I accelerate (even if I baby its my gas gauge will go down quite a bit. Basically if im at a quarter tank and accelerate the gauge drops to 1/8 and the light goes on. When I stop it goes back to quarter?

Both are completely normal for jeeps don't worry about it

No they're not. They're completely normal for broken sending units.

PS: the sending unit is busted

I respectfully disagree its normal I've had many jeeps and worked in a shop that specializes in them, the fuel gauge moves cuz they don't have a good baffle design in the tank and the gas sloshes back and forth. Hit the brakes hard gauge goes up, accelerate fast and gas goes down. It's a jeep thing The gas gauge stays where it's at it off design, the resistance doesn't change when the power is taken away when your start it up the resistance is still the same.

Those older XJs must be of a poorer design then I realized. I forgot the gauge stayed up when the engine was off.

I've got one at the shop that's a 99 and it's moving. Not as much as my 95 does but it still moves.

Or maybe just look at your gauge when you aren't on the brakes or the gas?
