Default frustrated no start BAH!!!!! fuel????

okay kids i bought a 89 Cherokee on a whim and have been battling its issues and have now been defeated. damn i love my 92

anyway i have been searching here and NAXJA and haven't found what im looking for so dont flame me just help please!!!!

first issue i found and fixed was starter solenoid now fuel pump has been replaced.

it runs with starting fluid sprayed in the air cleaner hose, and tomorrow i will be checking the CPS (what i do to check i have no idea) and trying to figure out if the fuel line is plugged. the filter is shiny new so i will double check it but i doubt its that. spark is good. its a fuel issue of some sort.

ideas please!!!! i suck dealing with RENIX and im beating my head against the wall. i know its something so simple i haven't figured it out and need some help guys!

if you suggest any thing please walk me thru it and ill post what happens!

thanks in advance!!!!

it had been sitting for years if that helps..... is it like a diesel and you need to vent the injectors? are the injectors working now as i can get it to run with starting fluid? (i understand carbs not efi!) theres a relay? for the fuel pump? where i cant find a pic!

all things in my brain.....

I would say test the pressure at the rail. Rent a pressure tester. If that checks out see about renting a noid light... will tell you if your injectors are firing.

I agree with Slick.

The fact that it runs with starting fluid confirms that you have a fuel delivery problem. Check all related fuses and relays. Do you have a diagram showing you where they are? My knowledge of RENIX is rusty, but I think the relay for the fuel pump is under the hood somewhere.

If fuses/relays check out, further testing is in order. For yours, you need about 31 psi for the engine to even start and it should maintain that 31 when started. Then disconnect the vacuum line leading to the fuel pressure regulator and the pressure should jump about 8-10 psi. Be sure that the vacuum line leading to the regulator is pulling good vacuum.

The fact that it runs when fed manually with a fuel tells us that the problem is NOT the crankshaft position sensor.

okay no fuel came out of the fuel rail test port when i pushed the pin in.
i then noticed this vacuum line has been destroyed from arrow to arrow

then i noticed this is broken. holds the throttle cable

going to buy some fuel line tools and see if maybe the lines clogged???
and ill rent the line pressure tester thingy!
thanks guys!

What kind of pump and did you replace the screen? Also did you turn the key to on before checking the valve? That vacuum line is to the map. That'll make it run like complete doo doo

im wondering if the P.O. switched the fuel lines? how do you disconnect the fuel line that goes to the fuel rail @ the firewall? also no pressure test thingy to be had gotta keep looking for that one.

So can you hear the pump prime? A lot of people have a lot of trouble with airtex. If the pump doesn't prime check the starter relay.

yeah i can hear it prime and out of curiosity i pulled both fuel lines off the pump and turned the key to the on position to see if any fuel sprayed out and nothing. so im going to check the relay and then pull the pump again to double check it.

when i replaced it i cleaned out the tank and refilled 5 gallons of fresh gas.
