Default Front Sway Bar

Well yesterday I disconnected my front sway bar to find a mounting point for when I disconnect on the trails.

I used a cheap way of doing it, Stuff laying around the Junk bin in my garage.

Took it for a test drive to see how it would feel disconnected. My wifes Jeep felt like I would crash the moment I touched the brakes or anything it kept wanting to dive on each side. Well I found with mine there was no difference in driving it. I still havn't hooked it back up, and it may stay disco'ed. It does have a slight gangsta lean going around corners but nothing too extravagant that would scare me. I am thinking with the bigger wider tires has something to do with it. Thoughts?

You must not like your rig because it is not a matter of if it's a matter of when you wreck your rig because you kept your front sway bar discoed!! You can get away with keeping the rear discoed, but the front is just not smart and your rig is to good looking to risk that. PLEASE re-connect it!!!

Wider tires and more backspacing will make a difference, but I wouldn't run with the front disco'd. It may only lean a little bit in normal driving, but if a deer or a jackass () jumps out in front of you and you cut it hard, you'll be leaning into it hard and might get yourself into trouble when you try to straighten it back out. I like you too much Rob, don't risk it.

nice concept... but i would use something else instead of a clamp.... too time consuming to use a 5/16th or 3/8ths(cant remember which one) driver to unloosin/tighten it all the time... IMHO

Yeah puttin around town you'd be fine but definitely not on the highway. I had an experience where someone slammed their brakes on and I had to turn a hard right and boy if that sway bar had been off I'd likely not be typing this right now and my kids would have been toast as well. The jeep handled just fine with the sway bar though and all way well. Wider tires help some due to a wider foot print I'd thing but the won't prevent body roll at all. Anyways I like your enginuity of finding something that works without spending the bucks. I may do something similar since well when I would need em disco'd time wouldn't be an issue since I would be trail prepping anyways. SO thanks for the info gives me some nice ideas..

Sway bar links or track bar either one disconnected on the road gives you a golden opportunity to use that WHOLE ENTIRE road that you pay taxes on....whether you want to or not.
Stryker, I totally got that your new set up for holding your sway bar was for trail use only.

disconnect the trackbar and your axle will slide out to one side and fly down the road while your jeep nosedives into the pavement. little bit of a different animal than disconnect a swaybar..

I've had to drive my Jeep a short distance on the road in both conditions due to trail breakge. So, thanks for clearing that up but, been there and done that.

Yeah the initial set-up was gonna be for trail use only if I decide to leave it disco'ed either I will remove it or beef up the way it attaches to the top of the wheel well.

my swaybar has been off the jeep for a while now. i've driven 80 on the interstate, normal speed on and off interstate ramps, backroads driving, and city driving with no problems what so ever, including semi sudden lane changes at speeds up to 55mph, sudden braking, and my jeep is still on all fours. of course, i do have wheels with 3.75" backspacing that helps stability. my next step is some stiffer ZJ HD coils or Rustys HD 2" coils for less lean on turns.
