Default Front right wheel sound.

Hi, my xj2000 do have an issue. Whenever turning left, the right front wheel makes a knocking sound. The sound intensity increases proportionally with how hard I turn.

What’s even stranger is that this issue comes and goes, with no apparent reason.

I have tried to:
Stop and start, obvious.
Engage and disengage 4wd.
Braking hard, out of no other reason than to try.

What could be the issue?

I would start out by checking the wheel bearings. It can also be the u-joints.

It was u joints on mine... those things are a pain in the *** to change. I ended up taking my half shafts to napa and had the machinist press them out and put the new ones in. 90 dollars plus parts was worth the saved time...

Thanks. Would the u-joint look any different when damaged?

The knocking can also be feeled through the steering wheel.

if it sounds like it's turning with the wheels, my guess would be the u-joints.
sure it could be the wheel bearings, so then jack up that tire and try to wiggle the tire grabbing it at 3 and 9.

check the u-joint by grabbing the stub shaft with one hand and the inner shaft with the other and twist opposite each other.

U joint won't look different to the untrained eye, but there will be play in the half shaft right at the joint when you test the joints as explained above. You'll see a 'popping' in the joint too.
