They look exactly the same to me, but Advance Auto lists them as different parts. They only had a front one in stock so I got that one, but planned on using it as the rear pump which is the one that isn't working. Although they both look like they were pulled from the Titanic. Can anyone tell me if they are the same?
I refer to the Titanic wreckage a lot when talking about parts on my XJ...
Thanks

The OEM connector on the two pumps is different. This prevented the plant from plugging the rear harness into the front pump and spraying the wrong piece of glass when you least expect it. I think when you buy the one pump, you get a length of wire with the connector so you can splice it into your harness. Chrysler/Jeep may still sell you the unique pumps like from the factory, but the generic parts store will likely sell you the adaptor wire.

Well, I am pissed. I should have examined the pumps more closely when I removed them. The front ones are both indeed the same. At Advance Auto, don't let them tell you they're different...they charge 5 dollars more for the rear one, and it simply doesn't include the harness required for the front pump. I ran the whole way out into town to get the rear one just to be safe to learn I could've saved a whole trip.
The top one on the reservoir is the rear, the bottom one is the front. One way to tell for sure is to simply pull the plug on one of them and activate the fluid and you'll be able to tell.

How do you tell which one is the front and which one is for the rear

The front one will always be lower, that way if you are low on fluid you may run out of fluid to spray the back window, but still have a few shots left on the front.

Sorry for the big pics..
Out with the old

In with the new! And they work great.

I must say, anything new and shiny put on a Jeep, no matter how small, makes me smile!
And, I did the squirt-the-tailgaters mod (kind of by accident...)

I was diagnosing a leak at the hose nipple at the bottom on the rear, and when I pulled it out, it broke off altogether
Anyone know of a replacement I can order?

I took a small drill and drilled in about an 8th of an inch in the hole left at the broken nipple. Then take some of the plastic vacuum hose used all under the hood of Cherokees, JB weld a piece into the hole being careful not to block the passage. W hen it dries paint it black and reattach the rubber hose. Mine has been repaired for the last 6 years..
