Default Front end noise while driving

So I have never heard a noise like this. It only lasted for 15secs at most. I was at a stop light and it started to make a noise that sounded like something was ripped up, metal on metal maybe. The light went green and I started to drive and it continued for a few more secs then stopped. I was only a mile from home and when I got home I looked under the car nothing that looked like it was missing nor did it look like anything was jacked up.
First I apologize for the vague description, I was trying to get my video on my iPhone but couldn't get it up I'm time for it to record.
There were no trouble lights on the dash, all the gauges were working properly, all where they should be.
It's a 98 XJ 4.0--187,000 miles--AW4
So anyone help!!!

Possible water pump or a/c clutch bearings.

Would the clutch bearing be a factor with the AC not being on, only the defroster/heater have been on

Figured out what the noise was....Apparently my 3month old serpentine belt didn't like cold and cracked width was and the part that came off is now tangled in the manual fan! Now I get to spend my morning untangling this mess.

Yeah That would cause you noise. Before you install the new belt. Check all the pulleys and make sure that they all turn free and the bearing aren't seized. Also make sure that all the pulleys are running straight. There has to be a reason that it did that to a 3 month old belt. The only other thing can cause that is over tightening the belt.
Good Luck

Yea I finally got all the tangled mess out. Checked all the pulley and everything is tight. It looks like the grooves on the belt separated from the backing? It just looks like its a defective belt. Just went and picked up a gatorback belt so hopefully won't have anymore issues from here on out. I'm gonna recheck everything in 2 months anyway when I replace the entire cooling system.

Just make sure when you put in the new belt tighten it up enough to get the belt slip out and you will have to readjust it again in 1 or 2 weeks and you should be good to go and long as you don't have any bad pulleys or bearings
