front driveshaft

Default front driveshaft
should it have any play in it?? it rotates about 20degrees.. rear driveshaft does not

There should be no play in the u joints; a little play is acceptable. also if you DO replace u joints make sure you get greasable ones

Put it in 4wd and P. Crawl under and try it again. There should be no play. If there is, its your ujoints or a stretched chain in the tcase.

a buddy of mine told me whol front axle is shot and should get a new one..

Unless its been beat to hell or the gear oil has never been changed/ran low, I doubt it.
Stretched tcase chain is more likely IMO.
