I have seen that many people who make front bumpers do not have the bumper bend around the corner and meet the fender.

I am making a bumper and am still in the designing process.

Are there any perks to not having it round the corner?

i dont even have a fender where the bumper would wrap around and meet the fender.. that is why i didnt wrap it around like stock.. Plus, just the front looks cool, and a little different! Go for what you like personally, afterall, it is your jeep..

i would have it wrap around just for protection.

durango 4x4 sells some bumpers that wrap around, they make two different styles for the xj, one having a winch mount and one not. check out their website you can get an idea of whats out there. I would recommend trimming your fenders down below where the bimpers are

I couldn't find anything at durago 4x4 for the XJ other than the security consule.

you have to look for newer xj's i believe i know the newer ones come with the fenders already up higher to allow it to wrap around and the older ones dont thats why they dont make em like that for older models

I'm not sure I understand your comment completely, but I'm pretty sure the OP is asking about fabricating a completely new frond bumper to allow for wrap around and is not concerned about the style of the OEM bumpers (regardless of the year) as they are weak anyway.

i believe durango 4x4 does, I have one of their designs on the front of mine, although it doesnt look great right now cuz my grill guard got ripped off, but yea my dad made their bumpers for them a couple years ago at his shop, i bet you could talk to them about it

Although my front bumper isn't homemade, it does wrap around the corner. I've nicked both sides of it squeezing by obstacles and I'm glad I have that extra protection there. Plus, with the chopped fenders, it looks good and protects those when I climb up on a big rock.
