My point was, a magnet will only attract ferrous metals, there r plenty of non-ferrous metals in the motor that a magnet will not attract and hold. U r right though, it can't hurt.

Thanks Salad and Radi! Ill look into some baldwin numbers and that donaldson one aswell. Im happy with the delvac in the motor. right now im runnin the standard wix, 15087 or whatever but i might try the 51515 wix unless i run into a
A baldwin or donaldson.
I used to get fram because walmart oil is usually cheaper and the filters were right there. I havent been to walmart in a long while now and stick to the local o' reillys so ive switched to wix. I run 5w20 valvoline full synthetic in my maxima with a wix and its does just fine.
Ill end my blabbering now with this thread from beginning to end was very entertaining. Thanks guys.

No problem. Check this out: http://www.ihpartsamerica.com/forums...filters-2.html

Walmart is a good place to buy oil; Rotella, Delo, or Delvac. I found 2.5 gal of Delo 400 LE for $28 in a Wally World in Arizona. I was pretty excited lol

I will just leave this pic here also,, Remember in my vid where I say Fram knows about filter wash over??? Well here is a pic of Fram tough guard with the screen.. This filter is just like the low end one, just has the screen.. So you are paying more for the high end Fram just to get a little screen at the end of the bypass valve. Like that is going to fix the poor quality/design. But like others have mentioned Fram is just going to dump all the money they make on you into their pockets and back into advertisement and not do a dam thing. why should they when ppl keep buying junk cause they want to save a buck or two.. well here is that pic of the screen

Q: What's the difference between beer nuts and deer nuts?

A: Beer nuts are $1.39, and deer nuts are under a buck.

Nah. B7311-MPG is the biggun lol. I've got a B2-HPG, it's the same size as a WIX 51515.

Thanks for the link Salad! Great read. Those IH guys seem pretty cool.
I was just going to say that the B2-HPG or the B2 would be my choice. A step up from a wix 51515. The baldwins seem to have a great reputation and better contaminant capturing capacity. Where abouts do you get your filters and what about price? One of the IH posters said he just buys a case from a baldwin distributor because they arent as easy to find sometimes.

I'd say the easiest (and most likely cheapest) would be to order them online.

Glad you enjoyed it! WIX from NAPA and Baldwin from the only game in town lol. Canadian retail is not a great price.

I've heard a story about how that screen came to be, which may or may not be historically correct. With that in mind:
Some years ago Fram and Dodge crossed swords over disintegrating filter material clogging Cummins piston cooling nozzles and damaging engines.
Dodge issued a list of recommended oil filters with Fram and several others notably absent. (TSB 09-004-01)
Fram responded by...well, there's the screen to catch the manufacturing errors, lol.

There was also an issue of premature timing chain guide failures on late-90s to early-00s Ford modular V8s due to dry-starts from "substandard" aftermarket filters with poor anti-drain-back valves (i.e. Fram). Ford did eventually change these guides to aluminum from plastic on later Modulars and the Coyote that replaced them, these are much less prone to complete failure (breaking) than the plastic guides, but I'm sure there is still excess ware if you use a filter like a Fram that has a lousy anti-drain-back valve.

Very interesting, guys.

Documentation is certainly welcomed.

Not sure if Ford ever released a TSB for this but it has shown up in many forums, magazines, etc.
Here are some examples, they don't mention Fram by name but say "substandard aftermarket filters with poor/no anti-drain-back valves", improper viscosity can also be a cause/contributing factor:
http://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/115

Fram does pop up by name in many of the posts I've seen on this issue in the F150/Mustang/Crown-Vic forums though with the vast majority of the people experiencing these failures using a Fram or another cheap off-brand filter (possibly made by Fram or someone else but with similar quality).
