Default Flowmaster Super 40

I am looking to put a super 40 muffler on my 99 xj. Does anyone know what the stock pipe size is? Not sure if it is 2.25 or2.5.

Thanks

Yes, 2.25", center in/offset out and the Flow is probably shorter than stock so u may need a short piece of 2.25" exhaust pipe if it's DIY.

OReilly sells a copy of the flowmaster 40 (flowmaster let the patent run out) it sounds exactly like the flowmasters at 1/2 the price.

have the guys look up the exact one you need.

Thanks for the info. Has anyone had any experience with the "knock-off" flowmaster?

We put some on an 1989 5.0 mustang and they sound just like the flowmasters.

there is also a company called v force that used to be exactly the same as a flow master 40 series. we sold them all the time at work cause they were 30 bucks cheeper and people loved them. in hte last year they have turned into junk. they us junk steel to build them and they dont last anymore. i never saw one come back untill the last 6 monts and all the ones that went bad were less than a year old.we now refuse to carry v force anymore. long story short do not use v force and be careful with other remakes.

I have a Heartthrob cat back on my Dodge Ram, which uses the Thrush muffler and sounds great. It does sound different then a Flowmaster, but I personally prefer it over the Flowmaster.

That said, I have no idea how it would sound on a 6 cyl.

this is what I have.

I cut the bolt plate off and made an adapter. It's a really really deep rumble but isn't rediculously loud.

I got it for like 12 bucks haha.

No matter what, the end result is going to be a personal preference. The only way you will know what to go with is if you hear one in person.Just my .02

Will the sound be better with a 2.5 pipe versus stock 2.25? I want it to sound like this.

I am going to go with the Super 40. I found it tor 67 bucks a r and e racing.

Is there a muffler that doesn't soundy "rice-y" at higher RPM on a 6cyl? On a V8 such as my Dodge, the exhaust has an aggressive roar when you step on it. Maybe it was just the video sound, but I wasn't too crazy with the sound at higher RPM. Loved the low rumble though. Not hatin', I'm just curious for my own knowledge.
