I am going to go with the Super 40. I found it tor 67 bucks a r and e racing.
Imo 2.5" sounds better but you will have to run 2.5" pipes all the way back. When I had my exhause done I ran 2.5" pipes from the header all the way back and it sounds much better than my last jeep with 2.25" pipes. The video sounds kinda similar to mine. The addition of a header will change the sound a ton.

Well I just got my Super 40 muffler and hopefully will install it this weekend. Can you guys recommend anything I may need in installing it? I will keep everything stock except the muffler. Any tips are welcome too.

Thanks,
David

and a pipe and bent it how you wanted??

to me I don't understand why someone would pay $60+ for a muffler. I would only if I wanted something quieter (er) like for a honda or something.

my 2 cents

I ran 2.5 inch from y pipe back back with a magnaflow highflow cat and a super 40 muffler. It sounds mean at idle but to me it has a annoying moan to it and I wish I never did it. The 4.0ho has its own distinct sound but I dont find it desirable in anyway. It may be that i'm alittle older than most people on here (30) and i've grown out of loud cars and trucks, not that I ever liked them to begin with. If your looking for performance I cant say that it did anything but what I will say is that by getting rid of my AC and fan clutch and going to a bypass pulley and electric fans that my throttle response and fuel milage both improve. I was noticing a 1-3 mpg improvement before I stopped caring a few months ago. The electric fan set up is one more thing to worry about but its adjustable when you wheel and it makes a diffrence in power and ecomomy no doubt about it. As for the exhaust I dont drive the XJ everyday I typically use my JK but come spring when it warms up the super 40 will be history and a quiter muffler will be in place.

Just finished installing my Super 40. At first I cut the pipe behind the muffler with a hacksaw and a jig saw. It worked but took a long time. After I did that I realized that there was a sawsall available. I used that to cut the pipe from the cat and the tail pipe for a tip. It was like a million billion trillion times easier and faster. Got everything clamped up and sealed and took it for a spin. It sounds great and it doesn't drone in the cabin at all. Actually it doesn't really sound much different from stock inside the cabin. I rolled down the rear windows while I was driving and you could hear it really good. Anyway I am pleased with it. I noticed when I came back though that there was smoke coming off the connection of the muffler to the pipe before the cat. I am thinking that it is the sealer just burning off. Hoping anyway. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help guys.

There is most likely a very thin film of something on the pipes to keep them looking good and not "rusting". Thats what you see burning off.

Here's the link for the Super 40 I bought. http://www.re-racing.com/Exhaust/Muf...r-40/tc261039/

Add the muffler you want to the cart and the price reduces to 60 something.

What Jeep do you have? My cherokee took a 2.25 in on the inlet and outlet. The inlet is in the center and the outlet is offset toward the right side.

I don't remember seeing any honda off road unless by accident. Nor would I want to take ANY honda off road. Jeeps aren't supposed to sound like hondas and vica versa. It seems to me a off road vehicle should sound like it looks. Just my two cents.
