add a leafs are just one really thick, leaf with a heavy spring rate and huge arch to 're arch' your leafs. a bastard pack is the addition of other leafs with a much softer spring rate that help to support your vehicles load. some leafs are higher arched, a bit longer and they boost your rear end. I run a 4.5 Rough country leaf pack with 2 additional leafs in it and i got a 1" gain, combined that with a 1.5" extended shackle giving me 6.5" of total lift when measured against stock. if you are going with any lift over 2" i would suggest new full length coil springs. they are designed for the lift and usually cost lest than buy a shorter spring plus a coil spring spacer. and if you decided that say 4.5" lift is not enough you then could add a coil spring spacer to bring it up to say 6-6.5" lift no problem. and yes always get new shocks that are meant for your lift size and the appropriate sway bar links
