flexplate warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im rebuilding 1988 4.0 jeep wagoneer. decided to replace flexplate as the flex to torque converter bolt holes were a little worn. got flex plate from ATP and also ordered one from pioneer. both were wrong! the flexplate only bolts up to crank one way because of the bolt hole pattern. i decided to match mine up with the ATP flexplate and the crank position sensor slots (3 long ones) were about one inch off. did the same with pioneer flexplate and the same thing. this would have messed timing up if i would have not checked the new ones to my old one. i have read about a few others who have ran into this same problem. i contacted ATP about the problem - and after a couple hours of research they called me back and said "thank you for bringing this to their attention". they said it was made wrong and to send it back. i understand alot of the brands (crown, pioneer, ATP, and others have this problem). i would say they were made at the same factory for these companies and someone didnt have the correct specs when blueprinting these. i just wonder how many people have put these defective plates in and wonder why their 4.0 wont run or runs poorly. im going to reuse my old one because its not in that bad of shape. if i order another one from a different company it will probably be defective also! has any one run into this problem? i think its flexplates 1987-1990 for 4.0. --- thanks
