Nice. Seems like I have heard that people have had success with and without RTV...I think the biggest thing is getting it lined up properly. Which is no easy task with all the suspension parts in the way, especially if you're at stock height. Pressing an oil pickup tube into a new oil pump is no easy task either...

i believe the tight space getting the oil pan back in definitely contributes to improper gasket alignment and slippage. Just my opinion. I’m lucky enough to have a drag racing friend with a complete shop to help me out pressing in the pick up tube thank goodness.

How fast does the Permatex Right Stuff set up. I’m a bit concerned on how long it will take me to get everything aligned in time due to my physical limitations.

I’m afraid that it will slip out because of the silicone doing it that way, yet I’m also worried that if I don’t it will leak. I just now got the pan off about 10 minutes ago. I do NOT want to go back in their again.
If you use rtv use the ultra black it's the best

I had the same concerns when I was doing this. I used Permatex Hi Tack Gasket Sealant to glue the oil pan gasket to the engine block. Just use some of the oil pan bolts to hold the gasket there until it dries. Then I put the black RTV on the underside of the gasket and placed the oil pan over it. Then you can tighten everything down.

That sounds like a very very good plan. That way I know the gasket is in place and I don’t have to rush too much. 👍👍👍👍

I don't think I did this, but you might consider putting RTV on the corners/rear of the gasket when you are putting the gasket on the engine, as well as when you put the oil pan on the gasket. I was never sure if you need RTV on both sides of the gasket or just one. Don't remember Fel-Pro being that specific with their directions...

Default Update on oil pan gasket and RMS

Well, I ended up using permatex ultra black just on the corners of the felpro gasket as recommended by felpro. No leaks! Thanks to everyone for your input.

I used snap ups, black rtv at the front and back of oil pan gasket, anaerobic sealant at the rms for the bearing cap, soak your rms for a week in new oil( seals better) and use the little paper horn, when pushing the top half. If your there might as well do the oil pump

RTV is really never a bad idea. My dad is an engineer of 40 years and is the VP of quality and engineering for a gearbox manufacturer. We replaced the oil pan gasket on my 95 XJ with a Felpro. He said put a coating on that just hides the color. So you can not see the blue anymore. But spread it around so it is smooth. Between that and installing correctly with center out torqueing patterns. I am going on 1.5 years. 12,000 miles. Dry as a bone! (Knock on wood)
