Faster XJ
I know it doesnt seem to be a popular theme with Jeeps but I am wanting to know some things that can be done to make these things faster, that wont break the bank. I have moded my intake and exhaust, and upgraded my cooling but it just isnt enough for me. I dont care about offroading really but blowing these little ricers doors off is sure a lot of fun.
- Get rid of the transfer case and go 2WD.
- Change your rear end to some higher gears.
- If you're auto get a stall converter.
PS: If you really want to take it to the next level, the cheapest HP to dollar ratio mod would be a nice 75 HP shot of NOS

Lots of thread revival tonight.
On fast XJs.
I always thought a 2dr 2wd with IFS (just because it'd be a lil more smooth on road and challenging to build) and a small block sitting at stock height would be a bad *** sleeper.
Just make it nice and quiet.

To get serious power stroke the motor the right way and spend the money on a quality tranny build to handle power turbo it or just do a complete motor swap
i see your point but i also see his...while the jeep isnt a race car .. wheres the challenge in taking someing and transforming it into something else. I say dont listen to the nay sayers and go to it...while it might not be the easiest project it will deffinitly be cool in the end.
Not much you can do with no money.
Also, street racing is retarded and puts other people at risk. Take that **** to the track.

The best/cheapest performance gains would come from modding your drivetrain, not your engine. For example...
- Get rid of the transfer case and go 2WD.
- Change your rear end to some higher gears.
- If you're auto get a stall converter.
PS: If you really want to take it to the next level, the cheapest HP to dollar ratio mod would be a nice 75 HP shot of NOS
Yep, I'm in the same boat as you....Only for me its a 400 hp naturally aspirated Challenger R/T

From 4.56 it'll be 200 rpm difference on the highway and I'm excited for burning off back tires lol
