Default A fast Cherokkee and dont know why

Hi, just signed up as was referred here for some possible tech help of how this is possible......

I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokkee Country trim, 4spd auto, 4.0L with 153K miles on it. I bought it last september as a toy from a friend that had it for about 5yrs and only put 20K miles on it for 1200 dollars. It doesnt smoke, burn oil, leak anything for that matter. Kinda odd for a 153K mile vechile. Drives normal like any other vechile. I had used super swampers TSIs on it when I first got it. Saved up money and put BF Goodriches on it All Terain T/A ko 235/75/15. Well when I put the Goodriches on I ran it hard a few time for the first time owning it and discovered it does 0-60 is 6 secs flat when you are at WOT. That should be impossible! I know the numbers are correct 0-60 in 6s as timed it a few times and my car is a 2006 G6 GTP that has a PCM tune and CAI and runs 0-60 in 6secs.

I checked the fuel injector numbers and there 19lbs stock, intake manifold numbers are for a 94 stock not like did a 97+ convertion on it. Exhaust is stock and rusted lol.

I get 16 mpg mix driving even babying it with conventional oil and 17.5 MPG on Mobil one oil mix.

AM 99% sure the cherokkee shouldnt go 0-60 in 6secs flat not near 7 even def 6. Do anybody from what I have said might have any sugetions of how this is possible? As curoisity of why this is happening is killing me lol

How are you measuring your 0-60 time? My '96 is pretty quick on its feet for an automatic 4x4 with 180k miles. I wouldn't doubt that it could out run quite a few cars on the street. Not that I condone street racing your jeep (or anything for that matter) but these things aren't slouches by any means. 190hp and over 200tq is better than what my 302 F150 makes and in a smaller truck no less, haha.

First time I noticed it when I got a chance to stop and run again I counted my self. Next time I have a watch with a stop watch part and did 5.87, think stopped a tad fast and wasnt safest lol, so just had my GF do the stock watch and she hit 6.1x.

But 6.1sec like I said is sporty performance car numbers like my G6 GTP, or Eclipse GT, Colbalt SS SC, and so on. A 6.1 0-60 breaks to ruffly a 14.5-14.9 quartermile if the top end holds true. Thats crazzy lol.

My freind thinks some one may have put 4.10/4.11 gears in it but not sure on that either. I really dont know, it does have decent power for a 3100 lbs vechile but still, doesnt seem right for a cherokkee I would think lol

Really dont care, am not here to brag but to find out if anyone has any idea why. Not here to say, look my jeep is ultra fast and yours isnt. Am just curious how this is possible because your talking car performance numbers here like my G6 GTP.

Yup. The XJ 4.0 is pretty darned quick off the line.. BUT, it quickly fades as it has the aerodynamics of a cinderblock.

I know its plenty torquy and thats what am saying 0-60 in 6secs doesnt seem right.

The engine doesnt sound like it has a cam in it but I also dont know how the 4.0L responds to cams and if it sound all loud like most other engine or not. Am trying to find ideas of what to check or look for to see what has been possibly modified. As am pretty convenced who ever owned it before my friend might have rebuilt the engine around 100K? As it doesnt leak or anything but I dont know. Thats why am trying to ask for sugestions

Mine is nice off road, thats why I got it for as a toy to play in the woods with, but discovering why its so fast is another thing.

I was told before a 4.6L stroker would answer why its so fast. But I was under the imprestion you need 24 lbs injectors not 19 and mine is 19. Is there anyway to maybe tell if that has been done to the engine prevousily and was built out?

well it does not have to be nesesarely a 4.6 strocker,, maybe its a lil less so that they injectors would not be modify,, or maybe you just got a factory monster

maybe the speedometer is off? or time is slowing down making 10 seconds seem like 6? I dunno but i do doubt that cherokee's can go that fast unless it's modded. Check the rear for a Jet engine.

Thats is a possiblity I havent thought of thats simple and can be over looked. Do you know the stock tire size? I have now 235/75/15s and not sure if bigger does slower on the speedo or faster, I forget. I can check the with my GPS to see if speedo is off.

It just doesnt make much sense to me why its that fast and there should be a logical reason why, as there isnt really any engines come from the factory that is magical lol. Ussally there with in 4hp of each other. Thanks for that idea to check out!
