fan shroud
broke into 3 pieces when I was replacing the radiator yesterday. Anyone have any problems running without it? I'm doing some other work on the jeep so I haven't been able to get out and test it on my own yet.

In hotter months, you'll have a problem. I'd say you MIGHT be okay to run without one for now in wintertime but I can't tell you for sure. You'll definitely need a replacement eventually. They're cheap though, just get yourself a new one

In the hotter months it will increase your chace of overheating at the least you will probably run a little hot. I just purchased a fan shroud from partsgeek for $17.and change shipped, most other places wanted $17+ ship and the junk yard here wanted $50.

As everyone else said you should be alright for now unless you have a overheating problem already. Just make sure to replace it before the weather start to get warmer.

My XJ hasnt had a fan shroud the whole time I've had it. Never even comes close to running hot, even in stop and go traffic in Miami over the summer. Only time its ever hit 210 even was when a radiator hose busted.

I broke mine last winter and ran for a year without it. No problems. With the 4.0 the fan is so close to the radiator anyway I don't imagine you lose much flow without the shroud. I've had so many issues with the fan rubbing the radiator that now I'm scared to replace the shroud.

You might check your mounts Kevin. I busted mine jerking things with a chain and the motor moved forward.
The T-stat of course keeps it from being too cold, and the cooling system is designed to keep it from getting too hot. The shrowd is part of the design. I need mine going slow up a long steep hill. (lots of work with little air speed)

The shroud helps the fan run at higher efficiency, pulling air through the radiator instead of around the sides. It's a matter of margins, you lose a little with no shroud, a little with an old clutch, a little with a scaled radiator, etc. One by itself might not cause trouble. If everything else is good you might get by fine with no shroud, but you've lost the safety margin.

Ran for a year without mine. Picked one out of a JY, it broke trying to install it. Super glued it together.
My advise, buy one new found here:
