Factory Fog Switch Lighting Diagram/Color Definitions Needed
I have a 2001 Cherokee XJ and am using an OEM fog switch to wire in off-road lights. 4 wires are used for the factory, needing to know what purpose each wire serves.
I am assuming Ground (obviously the black wire), Ignition Power, Power Lead for accessory, and Backlight.
Which color serves which purpose?
Thanks!

Also I would advise you do the same, the factory fog light switch, at least on 99 xj's can't even handle the stock fog lights.
As long as you use a relay it will work fine. I just did this a couple months ago, ended up figuring out what each lead was for with some trial and error and a multimeter. I had it written down, I'll check if that paper is still around when I get home if nobody else posts the answer by then.
Also, the factory switch had a problem with melting from the bulb temp, it would melt part of the switch assembly and it wouldn't work right anymore. I found that out when I got a junkyard switch panel and the fog light switch was melted, had to get a new switch in the end. I swapped to led indicator bulbs to keep that from happening to the new one.

One more thing... just remembered...
If you use the stock wireing/fuses/switch and just add lights on to the wireing for the fog lights, they will only work when your headlights are on and will shut off if you turn on your highbeams.
There is a simple mod to fix the high beam part, its just bending back a leg of a fuse somewhere.

If you dont need a new switch, replace it anyays
My switch worked fine, and then it failed on me, so I had to go replace it anyways.
I took off the stock Cherokee fog lights, and installed these Super White fog lights, they are nice and bright, and cost me about $60 CDN.
