Default Extreme random loss of power

Up until now i've had a problem with my jeep blowing the ASD fuse which i mistook for the fuel pump, everytime it would blow my jeep would stall. I found the short and rewired it. My jeeps been running just fine but every now and then i would get a short misfire loss of power, it got so bad that as i was leaving my house last night for a christmas eve party my jeep just bogged down misfired like CRAZY and made a weird.... popping noise? i can't describe the sound better than that and stalled out. I thought it might have blown the fuse but the fuse was fine, cranked it right back up and turned around to go home.

Today i have to drive out 40-50 miles to see relatives and i'm afraid to use my jeep because i dont want to get stranded. What could be wrong? The short was in my o2 sensor wiring so i think that might be going/gone.

1996 jeep cherokee sport with aw4 and a possible engine swap from a 99? (from what i was told) I changed the plugs out a month or so ago with champion coppers with were gapped to .35 Just changed out the fuel pump filter as well, it has no problem redling and has plenty of power, i just seafoamed it last night as well

try the CKPS or the CPS this is most likely your issue.

this happened to me. it was my cam position sensor (CPS) but it can also be the crank positioning sensor (CKPS) it happens after the engine is warm? ask me how i know lol it started getting really bad and it happens more and more often if you let this go. AAAAAAAND its horrible for your rings and bearings to have all that fuel in there.

Actually...... I think its worse when its cold? Or after its warm and i turn it back on?

I'll tell you the times its happened.

When i first took it to my friends house, turned it off, about 15 mins later i let my friend take it for a spin and he felt the misfire loss of power (first time it ever happened)

I got out of work and my jeep was already warm and i pulled away random loss of power

Yesterday leaving CVS when it was already warm i was coming out of the parking lot misfire loss of power

Leaving my house when it was already warm i got a block down and it misfired the WORST and stalled.

Usually if i go WOT it'll go away

def CPS or CKPS first man... well after you check plugs. they'll be dirty anyways so clean em and go get a crank sensor first. drive around and if it happens again get a cam position sensor. it goes inside your distributor.

i had to learn these jeeps too. i came from the work of mopar muscle cars.

yes if you good the cps itll show you a diagram somewhere... and the crank positioning sensor (which is actually called the cps also but for the forum i use a k to help tell the difference) its located ontop of your bellhousing towards the drivers side. two bolts and unplug it. DONT DROP THE BOLTS! lol i did this... the first time itll take a minute to figure out how to do it but after that its a piece of cake! theres tons of info on her on changing both of them if you use the search on the forum bar

What kind of shape is the tune-up hardware in? This could be as simple as plugs and plug wires breaking down.

What do you mean?
Do you know the conditon of you dizzy cap, rotor, and plug wires? They are supposed to be replaced all at the same time-every 30,000 miles. If your plugs looked bad, you shoulda changed the cap, rotor, and wires.

not a bad idea to change those though it is a maintnence thing that probably shoulda been done a while back..
