Default Extra long Hatch struts?

Figure these don't exist but figured I would ask anyway. Do they make extra long hatch struts or is there a strut that would work off of something else to lift the door higher. Mine are shot but I am 6'6" and even when open all the way I can still bang my head pretty good on the hatch.

Sounds to me like you need a 3-4" lift for your truck. I have the same problem sometimes as my hatch sags a few inches in the colder weather. Its fine in the summer though. You could possibly shim the mount on the hatch a bit. The quarter inch gain that close to the hinges might yield you an inch or 2 at the end of the fully lifted hatch. Just joking about the lift but Im sure that my sagging rear leafs contribute to this problem.

I think I read somewhere that Ford Explorer hatch struts lift it an additional 3-4". Try searching that to verify.

Maybe I'm wrong but I was under the impression that the hatch hinges max out right past where it stops with OEM struts. Have you tried removing the struts and raising it higher?

In order to mount longer struts I think you would have to move the mounting points and modify the hinges since the existing mounts fully compress the strut when the hatch is closed.

Lift it!

Seriously one of the reasons I am lifting my DD (besides the need for new suspension, better ride, looks and capability lol)

As said though take the struts off and see of the hatch goes higher. I think it maxes put right after the struts would.

Been thinking about a lift but it's at least 6 months to a year away. Have to tackle the exhaust first. I'll take a look at the hinges when I get a chance.Just from a quick glance it looks like they would keep going but I have been wrong before.

Someone mentioned shimming. I'm sure that won't work. The door wouldn't close right then.

6-1 and been Jeepen since the 90's. Don't sweat it. After the third or fourth, (OK maybe fifth), good smack you get REALLY good at watching out for it. Just stash some band-aids there by the spare and yer good to go!
