Exhaust Leak?
New XJ owner here. I did a search with a few key words but found nothing that answered my question. My 2000, 4.0, 4wd, XJ sounds like it has an exhaust leak, but only when the a/c is on.
The sound is at its loudest while accelerating with the a/c on. When the ac is off, you can’t really hear it while driving or accelerating. Maybe this isn’t an exhaust leak at all; may be a common XJ problem, I’m not really sure.
Figured I would ask here before I make any repair decisions. Any advice on where to start looking would be appreciated. Thanks fellas.

welcome to the forum....does your ac work?....lift your hood and have someone engage the ac while you are listening to see if you can isolate where it is coming from for starters....possibly have a bad ac compressor
Thanks for the reply ^^
Yeah sorry, I totaly forgot to mention that I have A/C issues lol. My A/C cuts in and out while driving. It works fine for ten minutes, then shuts off, then works after another 10-15 minutes (cycle repeats). The research I did pointed to a bad Compressor Clutch.
Sorry for the dumb question, but could a bad compressor make that kind of "exhaust leak" sound?

Compressor will also do this if it is too high or low on coolant and oil I believe. Lu shod have it serviced. Might be low on oil and out may be burning it up.
