Not on the XJ, not yet anyhow. Dropped numerous turbo 350s, 400s, 700r4s and 4L60Es using a small (2 ton) floor jack and a block of wood. Never used an actual transmission jack tho. Make sure the rear of the motor is supported 1st. Remove whatever attaches to the tranny, front, rear and sides and make sure the tranny is balanced on the jack. I'm sure I've forgotten something, be very careful......a service manual would be helpful. Have u checked the local library.

I have done it a couple times so it is do able but it is kinda sketchy and alittle dangerous. Used two floor jacks and a block of wood. The jack with a block of wood on the bell housing and the other jack in the rear wherever you can get it to balance. Adjust the rear to get the proper angle to slide out the trans. You will also need the help of a friend. One last recomendation would be to not disco the crossmember from the tranny, it will give you somethin to help balance and also help slide the trans out from under your rig.

A floor jack will work okay, just gotta be a little more careful. I did a clutch on a Wrangler the other day with my buddy and he has an ATV jack. It worked wonders. We dropped the trans down with the whole crossmember still attached and the ATV jack held it perfect.

i did one by myself in the driveway, a few months ago and only used a floor jack. i ran a huge ratchet strap under it and through the cab cause i wasnt sure what to expect (scared i guess) but the transmission just didnt fall out like i expected it took some pushing, kicking, hammering to get out!
I have found its much quicker to just pull the motor trans and transfer out swap out the trans and put it back in. But u need a floor jack and a cherie picker. I also take off the header panel and completely remove the motor mounts. Makes things go a lot quicker. I also use a bobcat not a cherie picker. But I have one and not the other. I just hate those top bolts on the bell housing. And if th t-case has to come off 2 for me its a no brainier. But it can be done with just a floor jack it'll just take longer.
I used a Cherry Picker through the window in my 1980 Blazer and a floor jack. Did it all by myself it SUCKED, had to do it twice too. It was an SM465 tranny with transfercase
i know its off topic, but i just swapped a honda tranny out in an hour using hand tools and my hands lol... sorry..
but yea i have dropped my friends mustang tranny with just a good floor jack and a piece of wood
