Evap system leak.
I got code P0455 for Evap system large leak.
2000 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L Automatic 4X4.
I don't know how long ago the code happened because the check engine light was already on for a bad catalytic converter.
I checked all the hoses and connectors in the engine bay and looked at all the lines going from the gas tank to the Engine and everything looked OK. I did not see any rust, cracks, or holes.

As for the Evap leak, check the gas cap. Many overlook it or dismiss it entirely. Check the filler tube as there are hoses between it and the tank. Could even be the seal arounfd the fuel pump. The LDP (Leak Detection Pump) in the engine bay may have a crack in it. Who knows. When you checked the lines, did you check the rubber boots as well? When all else fails, take it to a shop for a smoke test.

I didnt even know there was a noise. If that was part of the original post, its best to leave those details as is. It could help others in a similar situation.

my previous Cherokee had the wrong gas cap when I bought it, it was so ill fitting that gas sloshed out when I'd turn to fast. And there was error code.
I was just hoping to fix it without having to go to the mechanic.

Is it causing any problems when you go to fill it up? If not I wouldn't worry about it, that's one of those things that costs more time and money to fix than it's worth. Mine had a problem where the pump would always shut off when I was filling up and it was because one of the lines was plugged up. I just bypassed it and vented it into the air and it works fine now.

I had this problem in my 2003 grand cherokee and it was the gas cap. Every now and then the code pops up and every time my gas cap is loose idk how it loosens it self, must be haunted.

Another code.
I replaced the gas cap today. After driving for a bit I checked the codes again and there was a new one.
P1495: Leak Detection Pump Solenoid Circuit. This was probably the cause the whole time.
Can anyone recommend a good brand of Leak Detection Pump? I know they're expensive and I'm willing to pay a little more for quality. Within reason.
I need to fix this because I have to have it smogged for registration.

Rockauto sells them. Dorman part #310201 (Mopar part #4891412AC). Under $90, without shipping.

A parts store should be able to order one for you as well. BUT, before you spend the money, check the lines running to it. Sometimes thats all it is, a broken line. So is the other code gone?

No the other code hasn't gone away yet. I checked the lines, they all look intact. Wondering if it might be worth $48 to do a smoke test just to be sure.

How did you know they had a bad connection? Were they actually loose, did you do a smoke test, or something else?
