Default Engine quits running while driving

I have a 1994 Cherokee Country (4.0L / Auto) which has started to turn off and on while driving. However, the power going to the radio and/or the AC fan never stops.

When on the highway, the engine simply quits running about 3-10 seconds and then starts running again or it goes off and on like a short and causes the Cherokee to buck like a horse.

If driving in a neighborhood, it simply shuts down, leaving me stuck. So far for 15-45 minutes until it will start again.

I've changed out the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and gas filter.

Anyone have any other ideas?
This is my first Jeep and I've only had it a little over a month. So, I'm kind of new to the issues the rigs may have.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem! My 89 Cherokee will just cut off while driving. I also have changed everything. I almost changed the fuel pump But I do not belive that is the problem. plugs, wires, cap, ect even the relay switch. Its something in the wiring, or electrical. My pump has a good strong sound to it.

It could be the fuel pump or clogged fuel filter.

People you are doing it WRONG

what you'll are experiencing is the dreaded Cherokee problem myself and most users face

the solution= your problem starts at the PCM cover screw where the screw itself its making a short circuit.

Just back out the cover screws about 1/8"-1/4" and test it out. If that fixes your problem... great

I would recommend installing new screws (1/4” long, factory screws are 1/2” long Torx head)

Kinda sounds like heat soak or vapor lock if it cools down and runs good again.I wouldn't think a short would do that.

Like I said,a short isn't going to go away just because it cooled down.I doubt thats the problem, seriously.

I'm getting my fuel pump replaced but the privious owner had similar issues. Just another thing to look into and it's a simple free possible fix.

Does your Cherokee has an R134a Air conditioning system build AFTER 12/23/93?

If so, look in your Fuse Pane until you see the fuse where it says AUX FAN, if is a 20 Amp fuse replace it with a 25 Amp fuse.

(due to recall in Oct. 14, 1994 -Engine Overheating and/or Lack of A/C Cooling - Auxiliary Cooling Fan Inoperative-)

If your Heep keeps stalling try the screw method

if it STILL keeps stalling then....
