My '95 XJ 4.0L is buckin' and spittin' like a bronco. Just replaced distributor because it was whining, also replaced the cap and rotor. Now it's misfiring real bad. Local mechanic has pulled the dist several times and checked TDC, everything is timed right according to him. TDC timing mark on balancer is lined up with piston 1 at top dead center, rotor is hitting spark plug 1. Everything seems to be timed right, mechanic has tried to reset the computer to get it back to base, nothing seems to work and he can't figure it out.

I would have said to check the firing order but that has probably already been done.
Make sure all of the spark plugs and the wires at the cap have a good connection, make sure they click when you put them on

My brother's 98 is doing the same thing. Did a complete tune up, fixed it for approx. 300 mi. took the cap back off and the electrodes were already rusted put on a new cap and rotor and still doing it. going to check gaps this weekend. i'll let you know if that took care of it. Really looking forward to finding the answer

Did any of you guys check to see if you had any trouble codes? Maybe one for O2 sensor I think it's PO132, if you do and you change out the O2 Sensor you will most likey fix your problem. The O2 sinces the amount of Oxygen in the exhuast and the PCM uses this info to change the fuel at the injector and the air flow at the TB. Sometimes you can idle perfact and then 15 minutes down the road you will start with hesitation and then rought idle and so on.
