Well, since your profile isn't filled out and you give no vehicle info in your post, it's hard to help. Auto or manual trans? Year?

Piston slap was a problem when cold but I thought they corrected it by 2000 or so. Does it go away/reduce when the engine is fully warmed up?

It could be loose torque converter bolts too. I had the same issue in a car years ago, and would have sword it was a rod/bearing. If it is a rod/bearing, it will let go soon, so be sure before you are stranded, and potentially ruin the block. HTH!

That's why I posted the link in Post #4. But, since the OP was "told" it was piston slap, he chooses to ignore this simple possibility as a solution to his problem. That's why I'm asking if it changes as the engine warms up. Piston slap will quiet down but loose bolts will remain constant. Your experience with the loose bolts is common. Thanks for reiterating.

Cool

No didnt ignor the advice. And it does get very quite after it warms up. Most of the time after driveing it you cant hear it hardly. But when you start it the engine sounds like its going to knock its rods through the block

start with simple fixes tighten convertor botls first ,....heat will expand metal in some case causing less clearence between things bolted together causing less noise...jm2cw...

Yeah, why not? Once you're done you'll know that they're properly tightened and eliminate a future problem, too.

I'm still curious about the oil filter brand.

That's supposed to be their best filter but I'm still untrusting of that company. If it were me, I'd switch the filter to a Wix or Napa Gold just for peace of mind.
