Engine codes
2000 Cherokee, I-6 4.0L< AW-4
I just swaped an engine into my jeep. The engine doesn't want to start. It cranks but doesn't want torun. Check engine light came on and I had a friend run a code checker on it. Three codes came up;
P0351
Ignition circuit coil A
Primary/ secondary
Circuit Malfunction
P0352
Ignition circuit coil B
Primary/ secondary
Circuit Malfunction
P0353
Ignition coil C
Primary/ secondary
Circuit Malfunction
Can anyone give me an idea of where to check for these?

I got the codes cleared and did the poor mans prime. The jeep started and ran fine, got it up to temp and decided to take a test drive. Put it into revrese and it stalled. Tried restarting but alot of crank and no start.
The coil is grounded and the plug is good. Could the crank posistion sensor going bad make those codes show up? What about the NSS?

it's not the NSS or it wouldn't crank
could be the CKPS
however, you need to verify you have good fuel pressure both before and during cranking.
You also need to verify you are getting a sharp blue spark at each plug when cranking.
As Gee oh Dee asked also, what year engine did you put in (coil packs or no?)

Sorry guys, The engine I put in is a 93 or 94 (the guy I bought it from didn't really know) it had a distributer. I switched all my electronics over to the new engine. I had to make my own ignition coil mounts (mounted to the valve cover), the ignition coil pac has a ground at the plug that is also grounded at the valve cover.
The engine will crank, but it wont start. If I clear the check engine light out and do the "poor mans prime" it will start and run fine (no missing or stumbling) untill I put it in gear then it will stal and I'll get a check engine light. It wont start after that, just crank.
That's why I was leaning towards the crank position sensor because of the "cranking" issue. But the stalling once in gear has me thinking it could be something else.

Also when I swaped my electronic over I had to swap over the Oil pump shaft driver (sorry Im at work and dont have access to my notes so Im messing up the names of things) and the Camshaft position sensor (? the thing that takes place of the distributer). I believe I put that back in the right way, I followed what the FSM said (top dead center, plug to the back). When it starts the engine runs fine so I believe this is right.
If it is off would this make it stall under load?

Update: the jeep is now running rough and wont stay idleing. The fuel pressure in right on the mark and all the plugs are tight. couple of questions;
1. How do I test the TPS?
2. How do I test the IAC?
3. How do I test the ignition coil pac?
I'm going to test my crank position sensor with the mutimeter today. I still have the spark plugs in that came with the replacement engine. The engine run fine the other day while at idle so I didn't see any reason to replace them. I also haven't checked the codes (it threw the check engine light again) today to see if there the same, I wont get my own checker until next week (amazon). Is there any way to pull codes with out a scanner on a 2000 cherokee?
any suggestions would be helpful.

Engine: Check
You test IAC and TPS with volt meters, but I don't remember the specs on them. I just saw a thread here with them in it, though, but again, don't specifically remember.

Update,
The engine had a problem. I went to start a few days ago, to work on the issues, and no crank. I turn the key and I hear one click and thats it.

I put in the starter I got from my buddy and the starter works so I geuss mine is dead. The jeep will crank and crank but no start. I checked my crank position sensor and the circuit showed open (meaning it's good), no continuity. That's the only test that the "Haynes" list's for the CPS. Does anyone know of any other test I can do on the CPS?
