Instead of going through all the work of putting that Ford engine in, you could just rebuild your stock engine. Or even better, you could build a low-budget stroker using 4.2L I6 parts. Using the 4.2L crankshaft and connecting rods in conjunction with your current 4.0L parts, you could build a decent stroker. Here's some food for thought https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/strokers-15710/

i think you might end up paying more to put in a used ford with less durability and performance, than you would with a used jeep inline missile. this is just a suggestion, but do you think it might be possible to sell the ford v6 and get a used jeep I6?
and like BrutalXJ said, the aim is to keep it jeep. not that there's anything wrong with a ford...

If its the Ford 4.0 v6 with the OHC then that thing is a beast! Its no v8 but dang that thing can pull! My ex lady had a 99 explorer 2wd with that engine and that thing was freaking quick and it just got faster and faster with the rpms climbing. Its a pretty heavy vehicle too.
Ive always thought about putting that engine in my Jeep but its just way too much work and money for someone like me.
I say go for it if you have the resources! If you do it, please do a write up on it.
