Peace bro, they are laughing at us both, my apology to the OP for the hi-jack. I just don't think black vehicles require holes in their hoods to keep their cool, imho,.....apparently the mfgs don't think so either in their opinion.

The wise crack about the girl friend.....uncalled for.....the lady in my life was my girl friend 40 years ago, still got her, I must be doing something right.

No disrepect to your g/f whatsoever. That was not my intent. The wise crack was towards you not her since you felt the need to insult what I mentioned and have seen.

You are correct, black vehicles dont require holes in their hood to keep them cool. Black does attract more heat no matter what it is. Hood vents will help cool engine BAY temps not coolant temps. But if the motor itself is kept a little cooler, it can only help the overall time it takes to cool the engine. And XJ's (no matter what color they are but Black is the worst) do sometimes have the Heat soak problem on the #3 injector. I was just trying to help him catch another problem but help him with his original problem at the same time.

Black doesn't attract heat, It absorbs radiation where as white reflects radiation. My black XJ has no problem driving and wheeling in southern heat, its just uncomfortable for me sometimes with no A/C

My fan runs a ton too. Seems like my Jeep takes a bit to warm up, but if its over 60 degrees that fan will run a LOT. If Im sitting still, it kicks on for 10 seconds, off for 10 seconds, non stop. Not sure about when Im on the highway cause I cant hear it, but Ive done thermo swaps, flushed the coolant, etc., and it just runs hot. I think its a lot of motor in a small spot and thats that. My temp always stays one notch behind 210 on the gauge too. Weird thing is, once its warmed up, even if its -20 out, it does this. Ever since I bought it in 2002, 9 years next month.

Do u have the selector switch in 1 of the 3 a/c or 2 defrost positions? The efan will kick-in when the compressor is engaged (5 positions). The main reason for compressor (and efan) cycling is low refrigerant. If the efan is engaged by coolant temp only, 218F coolant temp is when the ECU kicks-in the efan. Again, I just can't imagine in LOW AMBIENT TEMPS (especially -20) coolant temp getting to 218F and kicking-in the efan UNLESS there are cooling system/gauge issues.
