Default electrical - what is this for?

It has been a looooooong time since i have been here

I am helping a friend with a 2000 Cherokee sport.
On the passenger side of the engine there is a wire harness.
it splits off into 3 connectors.
1 is for the Camshaft sensor
1 is for the Oil Pressure Sensor
and he last one is ?????????
It has a green with orange striped wire going to it
it only has one wire going to it
It has something plugged into it that has melted a 1/3 of it.

Any help would be a great help???

My 98 wiring diagram shows it as going to the ignition coil. However, from experience, the wire colors between my 98 and the 2000-2001 have shown to be somewhat different on occasion, but based on the systems that you have alluded to, that is my best guess. IIRC, my AC Compressor also had a single wire connector for it that was disconnected when I bought it. Just a couple of guesses. Hope it gets you in the right direction. Lots of people on her much smarter than me. I'm not home to go out and check to verify it or would for you.

Looking at the 2000 FSM, a DarkGreen/Orange wire is generally "fused automatic shutdown relay output", which is a +12-volt feed to various things like the alternator, coil, and injectors. Only connectors over there I see would be for the coil and the alternator which should have more than 1 wire.

I believe that that is a ground wire and should be secured to a stud attached to the engine block above the cam sensor.

I would check it with a meter first. Connecting a hot wire to ground could cause a few problems.

I certainly don't want to give bad information. Looking at the wire loom originating from the fire wall, it travels to the front of the engine on the passenger side. At the oil dipstick tube, wires for the oil pressure sensor split off as well as a single wire that goes to some kind of connector that is attached to the engine block above the oil pressure sensor. So saying that was a ground in my original message was misleading. Moving forward wires for the cam shaft sensor split from the loom leaving four wires that ultimately connect at the ground connectors on the engine block behind the alternator. I apologize for the inconvenience.
