Default Electrical problems help!!!

I Have a 1999 xj, every time I have my headlights on, and I turn my turn signal either left or right my brights come on!!!! This is really annoying especially for other drives... The witch for the brights is also really weird I can just touch it and the brights come on, and sometimes after I turn my headlights off they don't even go off until I turn the brights on. I got no clue what's going on, also is there suppose to be a light to see what gear your in I have the auto thanks guys !!!

Headlight switch is a known weak point. You can get a new switch online and replace it. When you pull it apart, look for melted wires. Also you could throw on a new harness for twenty bucks on eBay that bypasses the factory harness and just uses the new switch to trigger a relay. About an hour to install. Cruiser has posted this a few times but here is the link:

Yes they come with a lights. Pull the cover and check to see if the light didn't burn out or come unplugged.

I have pulled the cover and there is no light, or wiring for a light.... Just a place where it looks like the light might have went.

Dig around, it's all connected to a common harness. There is a light for the shifter and the four wheel drive if equipped. Sometimes it pops out and settles out of sight.

You may need to loosen the plastic console so you can look underneath. I bet it's under there.

So I pulled that plastic console out.... Nothing, I can't find it anywhere. Can someone show me a picture of what it should look like? This is getting really frustrating

Here's a pic that shows the location of the AW4 shifter (on the right) and TC shifter ( on the left) bezel lamps.

The power to these lamps is from the orange wire you see in the pics. The orange wire is common to all instrument panel lighting. It originates from the dimmer circuit of the headlamp switch.

If the lamp wiring/sockets aren't visible, you'll have to raise the floor console to see if they are there. If not, it's off to the junk yard for you.
