Electrical issues...radio, cig lighter...
Hello all,
I started to install a CD player in my XJ this morning and after hooking up the power leads, ground, and one speaker, I plugged the deck into the little plastic harness just to make sure it worked before hooking everything up completely. It did.
So I finish it all up, plug it back in, and nothing.
The deck no longer turns on and now neither does my cigarette lighter.
I've checked all of the fuses under the dash and they seem to be fine. Which fuse runs to the radio anyway???
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance guys.
Michael

Well if the radio AND the cigarette lighter doesnt work I would almost bet money that its the fuse because they run off the same fuse. Check the fuse again and make sure its a 15. We have this problem in my dads Jeep. If you use the lighter it blows the fuse so obviously there is a short somewhere but we dont worry about it, we just dont use the lighter. Check the fuse I bet thats the problem. Then try everything to make sure it doesnt blow again. Let me know if this works if not I'll do some looking into it for you.

Which fuse number is it? I tried searching all over and the closest thing I found may have been a different year. It seemed to have the lighter and radio on slots 10 and 11.

Wow, that was the only one I hadn't tried because it was super stuck in there. There was all sorts of dirt and crap stuck in there but I got it out. Blown.
At least it was an easy fix...let's hope it doesn't happen immediately again.
Thanks for everything!
