Default Electrical Gremlins!

So the XJ has been sitting for a few days since I was doing some work on it. I was working on a cowl intake and puting my light bar on the front. The only thing I did under the hood was cut out the underhhood light, drop down the large loom of wires, and relocate the evap purge solenoid. My filter was the wrong size so I had to delay the process.

Now, my guages and stereo no longer work. All of the dash lights are on, just no guages. Everything is running fine. Also, the rear dome light no longer lights up, and the doors will only lock when the door is shut and the ignition is on, but they unlock fine. All window controls work fine.

I had the same issue with the guages last year when it got really cold, but not all of the other problems. It didn't happen very often and quit all together when it warmed up.

Also, the blower motor is extremely loud now. I am kind of assuming it is because of the big a$$ whole in the cowl, but it just seems way too loud. It makes a fast clicking at the lowest speed and a loud hum as the rpm increases.

Thanks for help guys!

For the gauges check fuse 15 (i believe). For the radio and interior lights, under the hood fuse box there is a IOD fuse check that.

The first thing I checked was the fuses and they are ok. I really think my XJ is just mad at me for moving to Fargo. It spent most of its life in North Carolina and now this is payback.

when you snipped the hood light, did you first disconnect the battery? If not, you shorted it out. Check the fuses again, there is more than one.

That makes a lot of sense. I never even thought about disconnecting the battery. I will have to double check them all in the morning. Reminds me of the time I cut a line of romex that I thought had no power to it. Definately had to get a new set of side cutters since there was a nice little whole blown in the old ones.

Well it doesn't look like its going to be an easy fix. I pulled and checked every fuse in the Jeep and they all are intact. Any ideas?

It took a continuity check on all of the fuses, but the bad one was finally found. A 15 amp one in the junction box that wasn't labeled. Now on to the door lock problem. I think I'll start a new thread. Thanks for all of the help.
