Yep, got that one. Mine is nice and shiny...just like my other grounds...except the braided wire one...too much hassle to get to it (for now)...Thanks CC.
I should get your email and politely ask for all pics you have of all cherokee parts ever made...in all the worlds.

The problem is fixed! I probably should have done this first, but I just checked the wiring behind the driver's side body panel in the trunk, and sure enough, there was a loose ground. I cleaned it and tightened it up real good, and boom, no more bogging down. I didn't think wires all the way in the back would effect the windows rolling down, but I'm glad I checked.

Thank you again for all your help!
I know this thread is already 3 years old but I wanted to thank you for posting the solution to your problem. I just got a Cherokee recently that was experiencing these exact symptoms. I pulled the side cover off in the trunk to find a rusty ground connection there. I relocated it and cleaned it up and the problem is resolved. I would never have looked there to find this problem were it not for this information. Thanks again.

I'm glad this thread is still alive.
Fighting a similar problem, except mine won't crank. Battery voltage is 12.6 vdc

Have you pulled the starter and had it bench tested? (Autozone and other parts retailers will generally do this for free)

While I won't rule out the starter, I'm thinking it may be the ignition switch. I am going to clean all of the grounds first, measure the voltage at the starter second. I swapped the relays to see if the problem would move but what I am experiencing is that sometimes when i turn the key the dash lights snd gauges do't come on at all. Other times they come on after I turn the key to start. The best I get is a click form the starter, I may be chasing two gremlins at once. Bad ground, crappy cables and a intermittent ignition switch.

I need to get it loaded on the trailer and home so I can do some work on it. Then I can park it next the the four other non-running jeeps at my house.

I too had the same issue (put in reverse, instantly stalls. Try to roll down windows, stalls. Windows are very weak and won’t roll down. Put in drive and it wouldn’t stall but was weak.)

the unibody rotted out where one of the 12ga black grounds (fuel pump??) Mounted. I just spliced it into the other two grounds further forward of it and it runs great, windows work etc. These are located under the driver side trim panel in the rear cargo area, under spare tire.

thanks for helping me find the same issue!

This is an old thread, but the same thing happened to me just yesterday on my ‘98, and this saved me a huge amount of time and frustration. Same symptoms, same cause - one of three nearby grounds under that left rear trim panel had rusted off. I did not see the rusted off ground at first, as the wire was hanging down and hidden. A quickie test jumper to another ground got rid of the problems. I’m going to reroute all three grounds to nearby a body screw with no rust for a long term fix. Thank you!
