Does anyone know or have any pictures that show how the spring goes on a '95 electric mirror?
When I first got this Jeep going both mirrors were hanging by their wires and the springs were stretched. Even though I have made new mounts, on rare occasions like today my mirror pops out and hangs by its wiring. This is something I feel the spring will prevent so i'd love to get a replacement in there.
Thanks

I am guessing you have resolved this by now. But if not -- you have to carefully remove the mirror glass and plastic backing plate which is held in place by the motor, then remove the motor to gain access to the screw retaining the
spring inside the mirror. The outer end of the spring is hooked through a "slide pin" inside the body to mirror mounting bracket. The pin is often rusted in place which causes the loop at the end of the spring to stretch or break.
Access and replacement is easier with the mirror off the vehicle.I was able to retrieve two springs from a non electric break away mirror at the junk yard. The springs are the same.

I have had the mirrors dangle by their wires a few times but this is very likely because I don't have this spring which pulls them in. They have easily lasted several months before allowing the mirror to fall. They are a snug fit but without the spring, you're asking a lot for the design as there is only a small lip to hold the mirror (so it wouldn't snap on fitment).
Thanks- we were wondering if the PLA would be strong enough if the mirrors were flexed several times. He currently does not have any ABS so we would have to order some. Did you use
a heatbed and if so at what temperature ? Does the ABS smell as bad as people say ? Does he need to move the printer to the back porch?
I noticed your design leaves the bottom edge open to allow for installation over the wire and spring without removing the mirror from the door - good idea. It does not look like it would
effect the strength. We were however wondering if you minded if he modified the file to fill in the missing material as my mirrors are off the JEEP and currently completely disassembled ?

All I can suggest with PLA is to give it a try. I don't use it much as I used to struggle to get it to stick to the bed.
I use ABS within a meter of where I sit, it might not be recommended but doesn't give off huge odours. If the printer is self contained and easy to move then there'd be no harm in moving it. My one is more hassle than it's worth to move.
I print ABS at around 220 hot end and 105 bed.
Feel free to edit the file as you wish. Can I ask that when you reassemble you could post a few pics showing the spring if it's no trouble?

Spot on. Thank you very much. It'll probably end up being Christmas time when I take a look at my mirrors along with a list of other things I have planned.
