Default electric fan

Hi everyone. Is it normal for an electric cooling fan to come on at idle for a short period of time, then shut off, then a few minutes later come back on? When the fan is engaged, the engine is idling in park with the park brake on. I was warming up my '99 Cherokee Classic w/ the 4.0L. The outside temp was around 20-30 degrees, and the engine was not fully warmed up yet, probably around 150 degrees...any help and or thoughts are appreciated! I'm glad I found this site!

If you are running the defroster the AC will cycle on and off, and the electric fan on my Jeep (91) the Fan always runs when he compressor runs.

Sounds normal to me.

doesn't it seem as though the constant on/off would wear out the compressor???

also, i heard that it could be a sign that the freon may need a charge. so i got out my gauge to check the freon and honestly i can't even do it. with the compressor stopping and starting i never get a constant reading. it starts to build pressure and then it dumps cause of the stopping and starting. any thoughts?

i belive you are low on freon/r-12. it should not cycle on/off every coouple seconds. low pressure will do this. do you have cold air? if no, there's your problem. if yes, possiblw low pressure switch? possible.

i have a freon charger, but i can't seem to even get a good reading on the gauge.
the constant on/off of the compressor throws the gauge all off. it builds up pressure and then drops off cause of the on/off of the compressor.....any idea on how to get a reading when its doing this???

have you tried getting a reading when you turn your climate control completely off. what i mean is dont just turn the fan down but turn the other dial to the off position?
