looking at a 98 cherokee

the 4x4 lever says it has 4h and 4l (231 case)

but when you put it in 4h it says part time on the dash

now i have not had a cherokee in a few years (use to have 3) i forget is that normal? i know i want the 4h and 4l option, thats what my old cherokees had and i never had a issue

is this the 231 or the 242?

and is that normal to say part time 4 on the dash when it has 4h and 4l

 

Yes it is...part time means NEVER on dry pavement...only on slick surfaces like dirt, gravel, rain, snow, etc...thus " 4X4 part time only".

242 would say full time and also have part time.

ok as long as the 4wd lever (by the shifter) says 4h and 4l im good

I guess when the dash says part time 4x4 it scared me that it was the 242
