Default Dumb questions - Throttle body...

So I did a smoke test on my XJ, see smoking coming out of the throttle body on the side with the IAC. (89 with the 4.0).

I have a throttle body gasket that's left over from a whole kit I bought for a different job I was doing, I plan on replacing that, but I want to also want to take the iac off and re seal it.

My questions are this, with the paper gasket, I should put some sort of sealant on there, rtv right? or do you just use the paper gasket?

and is there a gasket for the IAC, or can I just use gasket maker around it?

IAC has an o-ring seal. So dry works fine as well.

Yup. No need for any "goop".

You can buy a smoke generator, which is used to force smoke into your intake system under low pressure. It will come out of any places that are leaking, and show you where the leaks are.

I made a smoke generator out of a cheap Harbor Freight heat gun, some 2" pipe, a wick for a tiki torch (soaked in baby oil), and some fittings and rubber tube. Works great, and I have less than 20 bucks in it.

My smoke generator is a cigar. I blow the smoke though the intake inlet for the brake booster. Works for any car.

I don't smoke so I used a paint can and incense. with some hoses. I have a video on my youtube channel of the setup, cost me $8.
