My '88 Xj seems to have a somewhat different oil filter adapter than most. The model listed in Fram's book that fits the XJ did start threading on the adapter but return pipe bottomed out in the filter just before the seal could seal. It was less than a millimeter too short, the oil filter, but it torqued up just fine and I thought it was on there properly.
Well, as soon as I started it, all the oil pumped right back out and onto my driveway.
Moral? Don't trust the Fram book and don't trust Fram, especially after seeing how everybody else loathes them because they are junk.

Chrysler 4.0L oil filter adapters shipped with SAE 3/4"-16 threaded oil filter adapters. Renix uses a metric thread that I can't remember.
