Default Driveshaft/Rearend Help

Well i just took my 98 cherokee out and heard a bad roaring noise and when I let up off the throttle it got louder and made a knocking noise so I pulled over and my driveshaft is very loose at the yoke/pinion.

Is it the bearing bad or what do I need to replace?

Thanks in advance

Just the u-joint unless there is damage to the yoke.

If the play is in the driveshaft it's the u-joints(easy fix), if it's in the differential it's the pinion bearings(more involved).

It's in the differential the whole yoke moves.

The only way to fix is to rebuild, just easier to swap one out from the bone yard. Just make sure the gear ratio is the same, and pull the cover off of the donor to check for metal shavings, broken teeth, etc.

You need to take the cover off and look at it,you will need to at least replace pinon bearing and seal and more than likley the ring and pinion. Might be better to get another used diff, alot faster and easier than rebuilding your diff.
