Hello All,
Unsurprisingly, my left side door speaker doesn't work. I've heard this is quite common, and it is usually the wiring. Well, I did some testing, swapping, etc. And found that both the door speaker, and the wiring are no good. I traced the wires through the door, hinge, and into the left hand kick panel. I ran out of daylight before I could get further.
So, to save a bit of time here, does the wiring from the speaker go directly through to the back of the stereo? or does it run into another connector?
Power and ground are being sent to the speaker at the head unit, so I know the issue is further down the harness. If it is a direct connection, i'll just spare myself the trouble and just replace the wires all the way through. Just figured i'd ask the experts here. Thanks

Usually the wiring fails at a very hard shrink tube between the door and the frame. Are you saying it tests bad somewhere between the left kick panel and the head unit?

There is a very good chance that may be the issue here, however I did not find the shrink tubing in the harness between the door and the frame. As I said, I did not get a chance to get behind the kick panel, so it may be back there. I figured i'd ask the question about the wiring to give myself another option to play with should I find the issue to be further up the harness. Do you happen to know if they are wired straight through from the head unit or if it runs into a connecter that I haven't located yet?

You might consider using new quality speaker wire from the deck to the door. It may be a bit of work but your system will sound better when you are done and it will save you troubleshooting time.

That's certainly something I am considering. I tend to trust my own wiring over aged factory wiring, that's for sure. I'd still like to know if it is wired head unit to speaker directly or through connectors. if the problem were at a connector for example, i'd like to find it and make sure other circuits wont become an issue in the future. (This is with the mentality that corrosion is a possibility)

If it is a stock head unit, there is usually a specially made connector that plugs in to the deck. I have had decks poop out too, so it may not even be a wiring issue.
Hope you can get it fixed soon cus driving almost sucks without tunes...

If I recall correctly there are 1-2 connectors behind that kick panel that go to the door. I am not sure about the rest. When my speaker went out I spliced in a new piece of wire to get around that hard heat shrink where the wire broke. If you have the Infinity sound system then there's an amp under the rear seat and the head unit wires go there, and then to the speakers.

Crazy 8s, I will still have music regardless. The only dead speaker is the driver's door. All others work brilliantly. Also, the connectors at the head unit are working perfectly.
I thought there might be. I don't have the infinity system, so that simplifies the process for me. I will probably end up doing the same. Thanks everyone for the advice so far.

Fixed!
The shrink tube for the speaker power wire was broken, but was not the only problem for me there. The speaker was definitely bad, and the 2 connectors behind the kick panel were pretty corroded. After fixing the wiring and putting the new speaker in, it was still silent. Cleaning the 2 connectors finally did the trick, and now i have sound all around. Thanks for all the help everyone.
