Mechanic or Mike Rowe??

The N stands for neutral, as I'm sure you thought, and will disengage the whole drive train, for towing the vehicle etc...

Just like the neutral on the tranny but it lets you disconnect the drive train from the tranny. Then you can tow it w/o messing up the transmission. We had a recent thread about that.
IMPORTANT your transmission being in park will not stop your vehicle from rolling when your transfercase is in neutral!!!!

i love my 242 its great and this is some great info im in a simular boat never been on a "trail" just old dirt roads but most of the time im excited it i get to go thru a puddle
