You do not want to be moving when shifting into 4-lo. Stopped, tranny in neutral, engine at idle. It's very easy to damage things in the t-case if it is not shifted in and out properly. When shifting out, you should not have to do much to get it to disengage. I just accelerate a bit and let off and it slips right out. All t-cases are a little different, you just need to get the "hang" of yours. HTH, later!!

For 4LO, I stop, disengage the tranny, engage the transfer case, put the tranny back in gear, and roll forward slowly to be sure it's engaged properly.

For 4HI, I typically come to a slow roll, press in the clutch, engage the transfer case, then ease back out on the clutch. I don't know if taking it out of gear is actually required, but I do it anyway.

To engage 4-hi you need to be in a low traction terrain, below 45 mph, and not accelerating or decelerating, just holding speed. It should slip right in at that point. HTH!!

You'll be fine. Just don't be gunning it and slap into 4wd, and don't put it in 4wd on dry pavement - EVER.

Unless you used a 242 transfercase.

^ True. I assume his is a 231, depending on the donor.

That would be the logical conclusion but I have a 242 and it often gets ignored so I give it the spotlight whenever possible.

I admire the 242. "Full-time" just sounds so much better than "Part-time."
