I got a 86 mj 2.5 auto 2wd I found a 84 2 door xj 2.5 auto with Selec-Trac 4wd both is 2.5 both is auto so i can keep my auto on the colume is this a good Donor i would use my motor and the xj tranny and use both axel out of the xj what gear would that xj bee

 

Sems like the 2.5 autos was 4.10 gears if I remember right.
Looks like everything you need to quadicize your XJ.
Why not just drop your engine in the 4x4 sled and be done with it?

the auto 4cyl could be 4.10, or a very rare 4.56 according to Google... the diff cover will tell you for sure.

as long as the ratio's match it wont matter which rear end you use.

I am no 80's expert but it should have everything you need to do the swap...

use the front from the xj and keep the rear ,xj are spring over mjs are spring under when you go to lift the mj the rear of the xj will provide a free lift in the rear all should be 410s

 

if it has the dana 44 rear go with this one

 

will my 4cy bolt up to that bellhounsing
