Default Do I need a blower motor resistor?

My blower motor has been making some pretty crazy noises recently, decided to change it today.

I am poor as hell so I picked up a used blower motor from a wrecker. We tested it on the truck there. Ran fine with no noise whatsoever.

Swapped mine out, put wrecker one in. Mine was definitely going, there was a ton of slop when I rotated it. If you shook it you could feel it moving around inside. The wrecker one felt solid when i rotated it and shook it.

Now my problem is this motor is making some funky noises to. Not as loud or violent as my last one but still pretty loud. I also have no heat blowing at lowest setting. I thought maybe the resistor because of the lack of low setting, but why would it cause the motor to run loud?

Symptoms of a bad resistor is that it only works on the highest setting if blower works on another setting then that is almost certainly not the problem.
