disk brake on 89 jeep cherokee
OK he tried to bleed the brakes from the master cyl. and it isn't the master cyl. just as you said. but today he see's brake fluid all over the ground now so if a line isn't clogged then something is leaking. when this all first started the car smelled as tho the parking brake was on while driving you could smell a weird smell, well when he like i said did the front bleed they bled, then like i said the rear nothing was coming out of them to bleed, no pedal to the ground or anything, he says he has no rear brakes at all, but as you thought the master cylinder seems fine, but when he tried to bleed from the master cyl. is when he see's brake fluid all over under the car. now we,he cant seem to find the proportioning valve if i could just get a pic of it. we have a Chilton book but this is a limited edition car and nobody seems to be able to tell us. Meaning any parts place, i know i asked you for a pic of it, but i am thinking that will be hard for you to do unless you have a 89 Cherokee limited, I have been looking on line goggling and i will keep doing this till you re-write me. Sorry to sound like a pest.

I have a 88 limited and the chilton is the best manual ever.
You can find a pic of the prop. valve on chapter 9 page 38.
The limited is only a trim version of the cherokee, no particular differences.
Where does it leak exactly, i mean, under what particular part of the jeep do you find the fluid?
Could it just be the bleeded fluid?

Internet? Too hard? I feel pretty confident with this isssue. I told you where to find the picture of the prop valve since you said you have the chilton manual.
If you answer my questions and do what i say i will diagnose the problem for you.
That's how it works. I am not a guesser, i need facts.
If you need to have a pic on here for some reason or any other information, tell me and you'll have it.

I think you have the odd-ball Bendix-9 brake system. Read this thread completely. >>--> https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/ben...-system-14960/
nobody has posted on my post maybe because i was a little poopy a while ago. Anyway my husband went and got a proportioning valve from a wrecking yard and he said that they are universal? is this true?, he put it on the jeep ( our jeep) and he tried to bleed the back brakes and they did bleed this time, yet when he took it for a little test drive he said the brakes are still a little bit mushy?. they arent as taught as they should be? does he still keep bleeding them? he told me that he accidently put tranny fluid in for brake fluid quite a while back, makes me wonder if that didnt lock the rear brakes up? the light is still on stating the abs are in need of something, Some people say these are just idiot lites and they arent to worry about. I think they are. should he get knew rear shoes? any advice is welcome even tho i was less then nice to you all. Please forgive me, its just he keeps messing up and using my car. as though he is doing this on purpose. he said the proportioning valve is universal is it? does it matter what kind of jeep it comes off of? please help me let me know. thanks again.

It's normal, old jeeps don't brake that well. It'll get better with time.
does he still keep bleeding them?

sorry guys but what thread are you referring too? about the abs light,? that you said old blue recommended? where is that thread? I have written so many, he put new shoes and brakes on the jeep and it still shows the abs light on so if it isn't the fuse? which i doubt then something else is still wrong right?
ok here i am again
I or my husband wants to know, if the booster pump is to be running all the time the car is?? that seems to be his main problem now. Also is there any kind of computer system on these jeeps like on a chevy cavalier that will tell you certain codes? and my cavalier will restet itself well something like that. So he wanted to know if there was some kind of computer in the 89 jeep?. He said the brakes after replacing them are soft, and will only stop really well if he use's emergency brake at the same time he brakes, then the car brakes well and the brake pedal isnt so mushy. I did and he (my husband) did read that site you told me about. But his main concern to me right now is the booster pump. I will wait for your reply i know your all busy but this car will be set on fire in about a week..
just kidding, i think.

The one linked in ol' Blues post. (post n°20, up here)
The abs light has nothing to do with the brakes. It says that the abs is not working.
yes
No
Register the shoes. There is a screw (bottom) with a crown that sets the distance between the shoes, the shoes need to sit tight against the drums but without locking them.

ok thanks again for the reply. I need to know, (well he needs to know) about the accumulator and pressure switch, I think he wanted to know if he should bleed anything from that? what exactly does this do? he went back to lay down guess he is getting frustrated, but i will get back at ya again thanks for your help. When the jeep was working well as we drove it, when he would come to a stop we would always hear this sound, it was like a whoring sound? not really loud but every time he stepped on brakes. Well the sound isn't being made anymore so i think he wonders if the sound shouldn't of been there in the first place or if the sound isn't happening because of the accumulator switch? I will write back thanks

Ok guys! its me again
anyway just wanted to say that I read!!!( ME) the Bendix 9 system that you have on the site here, wonderful I thought. Now i need my husband to quit asking me to write you people and sit here and read this step by step on how to bleed them and the accumulator pump, it tells all he has been trying to get me to ask you poor people. Well I think what is put on the site i just read tells it all in detail, better then the Chilton book IN my eyes. So for now i am not going to post just yet I am going to make him, Well try and ask him to sit in here and read all that I just read about his whole problem. the steps in what i read sound just like his whole problem and how to fix it, so sorry to of been such a pest and thanks for the write up from olblue!!! I will hope to repost in a few days if he has anymore questions tho,so please leave my post open?? thanks
