Default Differential Oil Change Question

Does anyone here still use a gasket in combination with silicone when changing the pumpkin juice? Just wondered how far behind the times I am living?

I use RTV, I use the ultra grey... says it has the highest oil resistance.

I prefer and have always used a gasket (FelPro) along with a thin film of RTV sealant on both sides of the gasket. Works perfectly every time.

Just used the quick cure RTV by itself. Works great, no leaks.

use ultra grey permatex without a gasket, if you happen to snag a rock the silicone is more forgiving than a gasket

Default Interesting Responses

The RTV industry has come a long way. It is still interesting to see a couple guys like me who still prefer a gasket. I have a couple of vintage Triumph motorcycles I restored and with the gasket and rtv combination they don't mark their territory on the garage floor anymore. I do agree with using the oil resistant grey RTV, it is good stuff. When the weather breaks and I release the pumpkins there will probably be a couple of gaskets on the workbench. "Old Farts" are set in their ways. Thanks for the input..... Here is a shot of one of my British Girls.....

SWEET TRUMPET DUDE !!!

I need to get busy and post some pics of my XJ and my Sporty....

And If the surfaces are good the gasket is ALL I use on most things. RTV and Permatex are actually made to be gasket substitutes. A Good clean surface and a Good quality gasket should be all that is needed!!

BTW: It is unbelievable how many people Missuse the sealers anyway, Read the package !..JMHO
